The Instituto Murciano de Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario y Medioambiental (IMIDA) held a special event on 4th November 2025 to present the extensive work carried out within the European ARACNE Project (Horizon-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01-02 – GA 101095188). The initiative aims to revitalise Europe’s silk-related cultural and scientific heritage through innovative digital tools and cross-border collaboration.
During the session, IMIDA unveiled a wide range of new digital resources designed to document, preserve, and disseminate the sericultural legacy of the Region of Murcia. These include digitised archival collections, inventories of historic sericultural machinery, virtual maps, 360° immersive visits, and data on the genetic heritage of mulberry trees and silkworm populations. All materials are freely accessible through the online portal https://sigdata.imida.es/sericicola/.
One of the most anticipated moments of the event was the presentation of the publication:
“Inventory. Heritage Objects of the Sericulture Station of Murcia (1892–1976)”. The volume documents and catalogues the historical objects and scientific artefacts preserved at the Sericulture Station of Murcia, providing an essential reference for heritage specialists and researchers, and anyone interested in the history of sericulture in Spain.
The inventory book represents a cornerstone of the ARACNE digital heritage strategy, providing the foundation for interactive catalogues, educational materials, and virtual museum exhibits developed throughout the project.
