As part of its commitment to preserving and sharing the rich silk heritage of the Region of Murcia, IMIDA continues to promote the ARACNE project through a series of outreach talks delivered in senior centres throughout the region.
These sessions aim to bring the history, cultural value, and scientific relevance of silk closer to local communities, particularly older generations who have played an essential role in keeping this heritage alive. Through engaging presentations, IMIDA researchers explain the origins of sericulture in Murcia, its economic and social importance over the centuries, and the innovative scientific advances currently being developed within the ARACNE project.
Participants learn about both the historical dimension—traditional silk production, craftsmanship, and the legacy that shaped local identity—and the modern perspective, including the biotechnological and biomedical applications of silk that IMIDA is working to advance.
The talks also offer an opportunity for attendees to share personal memories, experiences, and family histories related to the silk industry, enriching the dialogue and reinforcing the intergenerational value of this cultural legacy.
By bringing the ARACNE project directly into the community, IMIDA strengthens its mission to preserve, disseminate, and revitalise the silk heritage of Murcia, ensuring that this unique cultural and scientific legacy remains alive, accessible, and appreciated by present and future generations.
