PRIN 2025.05.16

The CREA Laboratory of Sericulture is one of the guests of a seminar on silk held at Padua University

Sustainable weaves: the silk industry between history and innovation

The event is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the PRIN project, “Waste, Sustainability and Innovation in Renaissance Italy: the Case of the Textile Industry”, a research initiative currently undertaken by the University of Padua’s Department of History, Geography and Antiquity. The event is structured as a round table discussion, and, in addition to the reports on the activities carried out by Prof. Caracausi, Prof. Vianello and Dr. Procopio, it is intended to facilitate a dialogue for exchange among some key players in the Italian silk world. Those in attendance will include a representative of the agricultural and artisan silk sector (Nido di Seta), a representative of silk industry (Cosetex) and a representative of the world of research (CREA – Sericulture Laboratory). In particular, CREA will be required to address two fundamental questions: 1. In what ways can sericulture be considered in the context of contemporary reflections on the principles of a circular economy and environmental sustainability? 2. Which potential opportunities may this sector offer in relation to applications in domains outside of the textile sector? Following their presentations, the speakers will answer questions from the audience. These subjects are also being researched as part of the Aracne project, which has specific tasks focused on promoting a circular economy and sustainability.
