ECOMONDO – THE GREEN TECHNOLOGY EXPO – hosts different events in Rimini, from 5th to 8th November 2024. According to the definition of its website, “Ecomondo, the ecological transition ecosystem, is the place for industry, stakeholders, policy makers, opinion leaders and local authorities to meet and talk. It brings together and systemises the key elements that define the development strategies of the European Union’s environmental policy”.
Among the hosted events there is one on the textile fibres, animated by the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics. The growing consumer demand for sustainable and ethically produced goods, in conjunction with the advances in processing technologies, has the potential to enhance the competitiveness of natural fibres.
The resurgence of hemp and flax, the revitalisation of silk, and the exploration of cotton represent a strategic transition towards a sustainable and economically robust textile industry, offering a substantial opportunity for the agricultural enterprises that sustain these novel green supply chains.
To achieve this objective, however, it is necessary to foster a greater degree of collaboration between those involved in the supply chain and the world of research. This will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and the transfer of results. In this context, the appointment by Confagricoltura, in collaboration with CREA, should be understood as such. In particular, Silvia Cappellozza from the Laboratory of Sericulture of the Centre Agriculture and Environment will present the ongoing efforts of her structure to bring silk back to Europe and Italy through ongoing projects, such as the Horizon ARACNE.
