On Saturday, February 24th, at 3:30 PM, at the Silk Worm Museum in Vittorio Veneto, the 4A class of the “Marcantonio Flaminio” Classical High School will present to the public the results of the research conducted during the past school year as part of the educational program PCTO (“Paths for Cross-Curricular Skills and Orientation”), titled “New Millennium Bug: Past, Present, and Future of Sericulture in Veneto.” The project was carried out in collaboration with the University of Padua and the CREA Agriculture Environment – Silk Farming Laboratory in Padua.
The experience marked the beginning of the “ARACNE” project focused on the cultural heritage of European silk production and its conservation, protection, and enhancement. It represents a journey back in time to breathe new life into centuries-old skills, weaving a distinctive European identity linked by silk.
The Saturday presentation revisits the one held on November 28th at the Esapolis Museum in Padua, on the occasion of the centenary of the Bacological Station.
The final product, which will be presented on Saturday, is a multidisciplinary and interactive geohistorical map created using ArcGIS Online. The map is geolocated and compiles the results of on-site research in historical, anthropological, toponymic-lexical, and sericultural fields. This involved gathering and consulting various written, oral, and visual testimonies. The experience has proven to be highly educational for the class and has facilitated a dialogue between the past and the present.
