Pesaro silk routes. Reeling plants in Pesaro between the 19th and 20th centuries

In celebration of the European Heritage Days, an inaugural exhibition will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 4:30 pm at the State Archives (Via della Neviera, 44), entitled “Pesaro Silk Routes. Reeling plants in Pesaro between the 19th and 20th centuries”. The exhibition has been curated by Cristina Ravara Montebelli and Sara Cambrini and features iconographic documentation from the Gabriele Stroppa Nobili Archives.

The theme, which has never been dealt with before in Pesaro, focuses on the importance of the numerous reeling plants in the economic context of the 19th century, locating them in the streets of the city centre and reconstructing the biographies of the reelers and the role of the women who worked there.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Municipality of Pesaro and under the auspices of the European project Aracne, is not only documentary in nature, as it will benefit from the collaboration of the High School of Art ‘Ferruccio Mengaroni’, which will lend some fabrics, clothes and tools from the recently inaugurated fabric section of the TAME museums.  This school is going to participate to the activities of the Aracne project for the year 2024-25.

There will also be artefacts and objects (scarves, fans, books and works of art) that, in dialogue with the documents in the archive, will tell the story of the Pesaro reeling plants; the historic material has been lent by municipal institutions such as the Historical Archive of the Diocese of Pesaro and the Oliveriana Library, as well as by private collectors: ‘Associazione Amici del Foulard’, Florence; ‘Centro Studi Naturalistici Valconca’, San Giovanni in Marignano; Collection Luisa Maione, Pesaro; ‘Collection Maria Rita Golfieri Palloni’, Rimini; Museum of Modern and Contemporary Ceramics.

The exhibition can be visited until 28 October during the opening hours of the State Archives
