MORUS UP project launched: Improving sericulture operations in farms through the use of digital technologies for production traceability.
The new MORUS UP project, which started on 14 March 2025, aims to revitalise sericulture through the use of advanced digital technologies such as blockchain. The initiative aims to digitise the traceability of fresh cocoon production, optimise silkworm rearing and promote ethical and sustainable animal welfare practices.
Key objectives:
✅ Implement digital technologies for real-time monitoring and management of silkworm farms.
✅ Use of blockchain technology for traceability and organic certification
✅ Introduction of carbon credits for the sector.
✅ Improved market orientation of producers.
Planned activities:
📌 Establishing a platform for traceability and blockchain notarisation of the sericulture supply chain.
📌 Remote monitoring of animal welfare parameters using LoRaWAN network.
📌 Use of blockchain technology for organic certification accompanied by environmental monitoring.
📌 Analysis of companies’ market orientation and development of new business models
The project also includes intensive dissemination activities through events, scientific articles and social campaigns, with the aim of making sericulture more competitive and sustainable.

The MORUS UP project has been financed within the Rural Development Complement of the National Strategic Plan of the CAP 2023-2027 for the Veneto Region (Intervention SRG.01.0. ‘Creation and Management of EIP Operational Groups in Agriculture – OS2’). The funding is provided by the Veneto Region through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027 funds, aimed at supporting innovation and competitiveness in the agricultural sector.
