On the occasion of the inauguration of the photo exhibition entitled “Illustri veneti – Da Marco Polo a Prospero Alpini”, a conference will be held on Saturday, October 19, at 4 p.m at the church of Saint Mark, in Marostica (Vicenza). The conference will feature a number of speeches, about the Silk Routes at the foot of the Venetian mountains, including one by Dr. Gianni Fila, senjor researcher of the Laboratory of Sericulture in Padua of the Centre for Agriculture and Environment. Dr. Fila, who is actively involved in the European Horizon project “Aracne,” will present a historical overview of the mulberry tree and its introduction to the Veneto region. He will also discuss the project’s efforts to geolocate, identify, and safeguard ancient mulberry trees, with a particular focus on the Veneto area. Furthermore, he will discuss the recent approval of a law on sericulture in the same region. This law places the mulberry tree at the centre of a conservation and enhancement plan, which engages the younger generation through educational initiatives.
