Workshop for primary school students
Silk, obtained from silkworm cocoons, has been a prized natural fibre from ancient times. In the former sericultural regions centuries-old mulberry trees are living monuments of once active silkworm rearing. We will present the botanical characteristics of the white and black mulberry tree and how variously it can be used. The development of the silkworms from hatching to the silk cocoons will be demonstrated.

1,340 primary school students participated in 34 interactive 20-minute workshops where they learned about the importance of plants and plant science through active participation in different aspects (microscopy, pipetting, making products, drawing, painting, printing, identification key, sensory perception, quiz, game).
